How to get to Alpha

Pyles coaches provide a secure car park area in Mt Beauty and bus service to Falls Creek. PH: (03) 5754 4024

If you drive to the Falls Creek village, chains must be carried during winter and are available for hire from Mt Beauty. If you are driving, you will need to purchase an entry ticket from the Falls Creek Resort Management (FCRM) at the resort entrance (Howmans Gap). Then drive on to the Over Snow Depot where you can unload your car before following the FCRM attendant to your car park.

Once your Over Snow transport tickets are purchased you will be brought to Alpha Lodge. Walking is another option, if you don't have too much gear to carry. (Public vehicles are not allowed into Fall Creek village during the winter).

Ski, snowboard and clothing hire is readily available at Falls Creek. There are two supermarkets, several bottle shops and a good range of restaurants and cafes for dining out.

We are located up in Parallel Street at the top central part of the village and have easy access to all lifts.

Remember, Alpha is open all year round, an ideal spot for summer and winter holidays or break at any time.

Handy Hints and Tips

Summer Winter
If you are planning to drive to Falls Creek here are some handy hints.

  • Watch out for overheating
  • Carry water and lots of activities to keep the kids interested on the way
  • Avoid travelling when tired, stop and have a break

Arriving at Falls Creek

In the summer months entry into Falls Creek Alpine Resort is free. When you arrive at the Howman's Gap Resort Entry point (25km up the Bogong High Plains Rd from Mt Beauty) continue through, another 5km up the road and you arrive in Falls Creek Village.

Unlike in winter when the Village roads are covered in snow and unsuitable for regular vehicles in Spring, Summer and Autumn you can drive right up into the village. If you are after information on arrival proceed up to the Resort Management office - it has the big "i" for 'Information' on the wall.

The Resort Management office will be able to show you how to find your accommodation, your way around both the village and the Resort and provide maps, brochures and a list of 'What's On' while you are at Falls.

What to Wear

It does get hot in the high country, so wear what you would normally wear at any summer resort. However, you should keep in mind that temperatures will be slightly cooler and can change quite quickly.

Eye and Skin Care

Sunny days are beautiful at Falls Creek but be careful not to get sunburnt. This can be a problem at high altitude, even on cloudy days. Make sure you slip, slop, slap. Sunglasses are a good precaution against the high ultra-violet light.

Village Entry and Transport

  • The Howman’s Gap Entry Gate is your first stop. At this point Resort Entry fees are collected which contribute to car parking, snow clearing, ski patrol, public day shelters and the shuttle bus.
  • As you arrive in the village you will be greeted by Car Parking Attendants. They are on duty until midnight Monday to Thursday, until 2:00am on Friday nights and 1:00am on Saturday and Sunday nights. For arrivals after this time, park at the Oversnow Terminal until 8:00am the next morning and purchase an entry ticket at the Resort Management Office to avoid penalty. The attendants will direct you where to park and give you a lift back to the Oversnow Terminal for transfer to your accommodation.

Oversnow Taxi: Transport you and your luggage to your accommodation. Open ‘til late seven days. Call (03) 5758 3285.

Free Village Shuttle:  Operates from early morning to early evening offering free transport throughout the village (no luggage).

For more information regarding resort entry, overrsnow transport and the shuttle service go to the Resort Entry page

What to Wear

A trip to the snow will be comfortable and warm if you dress correctly. Dress in layers so that you can peel off if you get too hot. The outer layer should be waterproof and subsequent layers should comprise warm underclothing. Helmets can be hired. A change of clothes is a good idea also.

Eye and Skin Care

Sunny days are beautiful at Falls Creek but be careful not to get sunburnt. This can be a problem at high altitude, even on cloudy days. Make sure you slip, slop, slap. Goggles or sunglasses should be worn at all times because of the high ultra-violet light and the sun’s reflection off the snow.
